Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (IATA code: TFU; ICAO code: ZUTF)[6] is an airport in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. It is located at the junction of Lujia Town, Shibandeng Street and Caochi Street in Jianyang City, Sichuan Province, which is administered by Chengdu City. It is 51 kilometers from the center of Chengdu, 50 kilometers from Shuangliu Airport, about 15 kilometers from the center of Jianyang City, and about 25 kilometers from the center of Ziyang City. The planned land area is 52 square kilometers. The airport was jointly designed by a consortium consisting of China Architecture Southwest Design Institute and Paris Airport Group (ADP Ingénierie). Construction began in May 2016 and flights will begin on June 27, 2021[1][7][8]. The total investment in the first phase of construction is RMB 56.2 billion,[9] and it is planned to build two terminals and three runways. In the long term, it is planned to build four terminals and six runways. In addition to becoming a new aviation gateway for Sichuan, Tianfu Airport's take-off and landing specifications are also close to those of Beijing Daxing, making it an aviation transfer hub in southwest China. [10] The operation of this airport also makes Chengdu the third city in mainland China to have two international airports after Shanghai and Beijing. [11]
As of June 2021, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport has two terminals with a total construction area of 719,600 square meters; the civil aviation apron has 210 aircraft stands, including 113 Class C aircraft stands, 7 Class D aircraft stands, 82 Class E aircraft stands, and 8 Class F aircraft stands; there are three runways with specifications of 4,000 meters long and 60 meters wide, 3,800 meters long and 45 meters wide, and 3,200 meters long and 45 meters wide; it can meet the annual passenger throughput of 60 million and cargo and mail throughput of 1.3 million tons.
